SCHOOL TALKS
LET'S GET READY

Whether your school uses Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangout, or another service, the material can be adjusted to suit. All I'll need is screen-sharing capabilities.
I will be available at least half an hour before our scheduled School Talk to test the signal, screen sharing, sound, video, and all other technical functions. If something goes wrong, we have time to fix it. If everything is above board, we can reconvene 5-10 minutes before the official start time.
Q&A SESSIONS
Q&A sessions run differently depending on the presentation set-up. Knowing your set-up and phone usage rules in advance is helpful so that I can include or exclude the QR code for anonymous questions.
VIEWERS watchING ON INDIVIDUAL DEVICES:

Questions in writing: Viewers are welcome to type questions in the chatbox and I respond orally.

Questions asked orally: Viewers stay on mute, use the hand-raising function, I call on them, and they go off mute to ask their question orally. I answer orally, then they go back on mute.

Questions asked anonymously: Viewers can ask anonymous questions through a QR code posted on the slides. If your school does not allow phone use, I will not make this option available. I read these questions aloud and answer them orally.
VIEWERS WATCHING ONE SCREEN:

Questions in a classroom: Viewers come up to the microphone of the device I am being streamed on and ask their questions.

Questions in an auditorium: A clunkier version, but viewers ask questions as if it were an in-person presentation, and a member of school staff communicates the question back to me either verbally or in writing via the chatbox.

If I don't get to all the questions before the end of the session, I often follow-up with written responses on my blog or in an email for you to pass on to viewers.
