The Hong Konger Wall mural at the Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2021

I'm so excited to team up with Young Soy Gallery to exhibit The Hong Konger at their booth for the Affordable Art Fair. Well... not just exhibit at the booth; I'll also be making one of the mural walls at the Fair and giving a Make Your Own Hong Konger workshop on opening night.

The Affordable Art Fair, an international exhibition series selling contemporary art priced between HK $1,000 and $100,000 in 10 cities including New York, London, and Hong Kong, will feature a mural wall showcasing over 100 real Hong Kongers at its Fair from 4 - 7 August 2022 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The mural will transform crowdsourced photographs from Hong Kongers at home and abroad into illustrated portraits of individuals doing the finger heart, a hand gesture that originated from South Korea but has been co-opted by Hong Kongers to symbolise solidarity, hope, and love. The pose is a subverted adaptation of the monocled New Yorker character published on covers of The New Yorker magazine.

All and any Hong Kongers are invited to submit a photograph of themselves for free right here. From there, I'll set to work illustrating portraits on my iPad. Once finished, the illustrated portraits will be posted on social media, where you're encouraged to share and invite friends and family to join the project.
