Posters for readers, young and old

Hong Kong International Literary Festival

March 2023

Created on commission for The Hong Kong International Literary Festival's 2023 programme, this project involved generating poster art for its adult and young readers' festivals, based on the theme of diversity and celebration.

This first version for the Young Readers Festival was rejected as the client preferred a perspective from the street level. For reference, this artwork separated each child and book in the foreground by layer to allow for stickers to be made from the characters. As a result, the cityscape is also available as a standalone background for licensing, as shown below. The digital medium is block colours for the background using a fineliner pen for outlines, and colour pencil and oil pastel for the children and books.

The second version is structured similarly with the children and books existing in discreet layers. The digital medium for this artwork is block colours with a studio pen for outlines, and collage for the books.

The background is available for licensing as a standalone backdrop as well.

For the adult festival, we pivoted to a night-time scene with readers celebrating on rooftops in a Sai Ying Pun-inspired neighbourhood. The digital medium is oil brushes uses clipping masks and an angled outliner pen for detailing.

Pangolin Society Limited © June 2021. The artwork is availble for licensing.
